Christos Kapetanos: "Yiannis Govaris, a beacon of our municipal tradition, will live forever in our hearts"
With deep emotion the MP of Larissa of ND Christos Kapetanos attended the event of honor and memory for his late friend, Yiannis Govaris, one of the most important exponents of our municipal tradition, who passed away two years ago. The event took place at the Cultural Center of Farsala, co-organized by the Panhellenic Federation of Sarakatsana Associations and the Sarakatsana Association of Farsala District.
In the context of the event, his wife, Chrysoula Govaris, and his son, Thodoris Govaris, were honored with special emotion, as a sign of recognition for their support for this great artist, who dedicated his life to saving and spreading the Sarakatsan musical tradition.
The event was surrounded by the presence and performances of Sarakatsan singers, friends and collaborators of Yannis Govaris, who sang in his memory, honoring his great contribution to folk song. Through their performances, the power of his musical legacy, which continues to move and inspire, was highlighted once again.
In his speech at the crowded Cultural Center of the municipality of Farsala, Christos Kapetanos emphasized: "I want to express my warm congratulations to the organizers of this great event, which keeps alive the memory of Yiannis Govaris and highlighted his invaluable cultural heritage.
Yiannis Govaris may be gone, but his work and his love for our folk music will continue to light the way for generations to come.
For us, the people of Thessaly and especially of Larissa and Pharsala, his memory will remain indelible, just as his contribution to our culture is indelible.
