Captain-Gerapetritis meeting: "Greece is a factor of stability in the Balkans and the Mediterranean - The return of Greek citizenship to the Sarakatsans of Bulgaria is important"
The Member of Parliament for Larissa of New Democracy, Christos Kapetanos, met at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. George Gerapetritis.
The discussion was held in a warm and constructive atmosphere, while a series of topical issues concerning our country and our foreign policy were examined, for which the Thessalonian MP requested information.
First, the recent American elections and their possible effects on international relations were discussed, with Mr. Captain to underline the importance of maintaining strong Greek-American ties, especially regarding Greece's national interests in the wider Eastern Mediterranean region, which the Greek government is already doing.
Also, reference was made to the talks on the Cyprus issue, where Mr. Captain supported the need for a fair and sustainable solution to the issue, with full respect for the human rights of Cypriot citizens and international resolutions.
In addition, the issue of Greek-Turkish relations was raised, as well as the recent developments in this ever-changing region. The MP from Larisa stressed the need for our country to remain on a steady course, defending its sovereign rights with responsibility and patriotic fervor, as Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has also declared.
Finally, Mr. Captain raised a particularly sensitive issue, that of the recognition and granting of Greek citizenship to the Sarakatsans of Bulgaria, a process which has already been successfully initiated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Internal Affairs and is warmly supported by the Panhellenic Federation of Sarakatsan Associations (P.O.S. S.).
Mr. Captain praised this initiative, pointing out the importance of safeguarding the rights, in general, of our Greek expatriates, but also of the Greeks of Northern Epirus in particular.
Mr. Captain, finally, he thanked the Minister of Foreign Affairs, George Gerapetritis, for the information and for the excellent work he has done at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with primary importance being the recent Government Plan for Hellenism Abroad, presented by the minister, in the presence of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
